French Pendulum Clock & Cassolettes in Gilt Bronze & Portor Marble

Large French pendulum clock and its period cassolettes from the early twentieth century, in gilded bronze and Portor marble, largely inspired by the Egyptian style. The finely guilloche enamel and gilt bronze dial held by two sphinxes and surmounted by an eagle with outstretched wings, the whole resting on a Portor marble plinth adorned with a pair of wings and snakes The gilt bronze casseroles, the handles also featuring snakes.

Condition: Excellent with complete movement in working order.

Description: Important 19th Century Gilt Bronze Centerpiece by sculptor Edouard Drouot (1859-1945) after Charles Le Brun's (1619-1690) famous painting "Triumphal Entry of Alexander The Great into Babylon" displayed in the Louvre Museum. Composition sculpted in bas-relief and very finely chiseled and engraved, decorated with sphinxes, rests on a molded and gadrooned base.
